Greek country salad

Do you know that traditional Greek salad is different from the one we eat every day in Poland? The iconic version of the village salad commonly known as the Greek, is thickly chopped vegetables without the addition of lettuce. Some variations of this dish include anchovies, capers and wine vinegar. The traditional version is served in a glass bowl and decorated with basil. Sometimes toasts are also served. We guarantee that mixing the salad before eating will give it a better taste and appearance. The Greeks add a large amount of olive oil to it, which they eat at the end by soaking the bread in it. This dish is served with fish and meat or as a snack. They serve it in all restaurants in Greece.

·     2 tomatoes

·     4 cucumbers

·      ½ cup of olives

·     250g of feta cheese

·      ½ red onion

·     2 peppers

·     4 tablespoons of olive oil

·     4 teaspoons of dried oregano

A method of preparing:

  • Cut the tomatoes into smaller pieces.
  • Peel the cucumbers and cut into thicker slices.
  • Cut the olives into halves.
  • Slice the onion thinly.
  • Put all ingredients in one bowl. Put the slices of feta cheese on top. Sprinkle with dried oregano and pour olive oil.

Which olives are recommended by the Greeks?

According to interviews with the local population, kalamata olives are the most popular. Preferably black, but green are accepted, may have seeds, but cannot be stuffed.

What feta cheese do the Greeks choose?

The inhabitants of the local areas prefer the original feta cheese. Since 2002, it has been protected and reserved exclusively for cheeses from Greece.
